What is a Cooperative Preschool
What is a Cooperative Preschool?
Lakeland Preschool is a Parent Cooperative, and as such is your
organization.
A Board of Directors is appointed each spring to
oversee the operations of the school.  This Board consists of
volunteer parents who all have a child enrolled at the preschool.

The direct involvement of parents in the preschool is unique to
cooperative schools, and parents benefit in as many ways as the
children.  By participating in the classroom, parents gain a better
understanding of how their child interacts with other children, how
their child learns, and what their child's strengths are.

Parent involvement shows the children that their school experiences
are valued, and research shows that children do much better in school
when their parents are involved.

Being part of a parent cooperative is a great way to begin involvement
in your child's school years.  It also provides an opportunity to meet
other parents and form new friendships that often last beyond the
preschool years.

Though the cooperative school offers many benefits , it also requires
more time and commitment from the parents than the traditional
preschool.  At Lakeland, we require each family to serve on one
committee and work on one fundraiser per year.  We also ask that
each family participate in all fundraising activities as much as possible.
By sharing the work and expenses, we are able to keep tuition at
reasonable rates.

If you feel that these requirements would be difficult to meet,
please voice your concerns prior to enrollment so we can discuss other
arrangements to assure all families carry an equal workload.

We encourage parents to think of Lakeland Cooperative Preschool as
their school, and to help in creating the best possible all-around
environment for our children.
